Blackburn Rovers began the pre-season friendlies with a 2-0 win against Accrington Stanley on Saturday Afternoon, however, this win might’ve come at a price??

This win (and a win against any side from any level in any match will always be taken) at The Crown Ground was definitely overshadowed by the injury to Jordan Rhodes with the Rovers striker stretchered off after a sustained period of treatment in the first half!!

Everyone is now waiting nervously as to how serious this injury is!!

As far as the match went Gary Bowyer fielded two different sides (aside from John O’Sullivan who had come on for Rhodes) in each half with trialists Giles Coke, Dean Furman and Liam Nolan all given a start with Shane Duffy making his return from injury (having missed the end of last season) to start too. Grant Hanley, Matt Kilgallon and Anton Forrester also made returns from injury in the second half with our fourth trialist Sacha Petshi given a run in the second forty five minutes.

Accrington threatened first with Josh Windass (the son of former Hull City striker Dean) seeing his effort tipped onto the post by Jason Steele but South African International Furman will be given an extended chance to earn a Rovers deal with his goal helping him do this, which was created by recent Academy graduate Ryan Nyambe (who also did his first team chances for this season no harm.)

David Raya took his place in the Rovers goal for the second half and after a poor back pass by Craig Conway he also did his chances of proving to Bowyer that he’s the number one at Ewood Park by saving an Anthony Barry penalty, having been forced into conceding it. He also made a superb save at the end of the match.

Conway (who’s said he’s not only keen to stay but looking for double figures) does what he does best though when he finished into the top corner from twenty yards to add our second.

Now attention turns to Portugal and our warm weather training, that and Rhodes and how serious his injury is!!

The absence of Rudy Gestede seems to be a telling sign??
