The Rovers Academy side have the opportunity to win the Academy League title today as the young guns take on Manchester United with a place in the overall league semi finals at stake.

With Manchester City not taking their opportunity to grab the title it has left Rovers needing a win today to add another chapter of success to a very promising season.

It seems unlikely that the young Rovers will be winning the FA Youth Cup given their 4-0 deficit to Chelsea but a win today and a morale boosting victory (on the night) against Chelsea is the aim – to cap the season off.

McPhillips told the Lancashire Telegraph – “We have had a bit of luck. Manchester City went into their last three games knowing one win would win them the title but they didn`t get that.

“It gives us an opportunity.

“We have the tough ask of winning at Manchester United but we know if we do that we will win the title.

“Now we have that chance we want to do that.

“We want to make it a great week with a win at Manchester United and then a win over Chelsea next week at Ewood Park. It would be a great way to end the season.

“What we have done is show the strength in depth in the youth section of the club.

“We had played a lot of under 16s and even an under 15 player for the academy side in the league, with our under 18s on the FA Youth Cup run.

“They have not come up short for us and that says a lot about them.

“It has been a great season but a couple of results in the next week could make it all so much better.”

Good luck to the likes of Ryan Edwards, Raheem Hanley and Hugo Fernandez today, do us proud again.
