Rovers Youth on the march

The Rovers Youth side are through to the semi finals of the FA Youth Cup after a topsy turvy tie away at Newcastle last night.

The game was up and down with 120 minutes of football unable to split the two who played out a 2-2 draw before Rovers eventually overcame the barcodes in the shoot out with the MAgpies unable to hit the target once.

After captain Ryan Edwards had equalised an early Michael Hoganson strike in the first half it seemed as if Rovers were heading out due to an early second half effort from Newcastle’s Jonathan Hooper but substitute Robbie Cotton saved the day with a striker ten minutes from time to restore parity.

Extra time passed without further major incident so it went to penalties to separate the two teams with Rovers young stopper Matty Urwin the hero.

Newcastle young guns failed to net a spot kick with Urwin saving two and Rovers dispatched all theirs to run out comfortable 3-0 winners (in the sudden death stuff anyway!).

The lads now await their semi opponents who will be either Fulham, or… wait for it… Burnley.
