Blackburn Rovers Defender (and skipper) Ryan Nelsen is ready and raring to get the season underway in order to make up for the lost time he suffered last season after a long injury layoff.

Injuries sidelined Nelsen until January last term, and his commanding influence was MASSIVELY missed (even though we just about coped with him) before his return coincided with even more of an upturn in Rovers fortunes, and a fine defensive partnership with Christopher Samba. The competition for places is EVEN stronger than ever, and God (Nelsen in case anyone is unfamiliar with this?) is relishing this (and it is showing in training by all accounts!!!)

God told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: “The competition for places is well up for grabs.

“I’ve never heard our coaches tell everybody to calm down so much, so I think that means everybody is ready and raring to go for Saturday
.”

God, who missed the whole of Pre-Season last year has enjoyed every minute of what he has played this summer and he feels the squad will benefit from this, as well as the two competitive games Rovers have already played in the Intertoto Cup.

He added: “It isn’t going to take three or four games to maybe get accustomed to the fitness, I think we’re ready and I think everybody is looking forward to it.”

As we ALL know Rovers a notoriously sluggish starters, but the added benefits of this extended Pre-Season SHOULD see us up and running sooner, with the already mentioned added bonus of having played competitive must win matches already, so Rovers will be looking to buck the trend and make sure it doesn’t become three successive opening day defeats in a row against Middlesbrough tomorrow. However, we have to remember it is a marathon and not a sprint.

The New Zealand International also said: “We want to start well this season, but we also know it is a 38-game season and it is a long haul. So the nooses won’t be out if we haven’t got the points in the first couple of games, but we are motivated to get on the board early doors.”
