Rovers defender and all round nut job Michel Salgado has offered some support Steve Kean by showing that the players are fully focused on survival.

Salgado has claimed that Kean has had to deal with a lot of change over the last few months and that the lack of spending at the club over the last two years has proved a hurdle to stride over in itself.

The former Real man told the Royal Mail – ‘We have not spent any money for the past few years and there have been a lot of changes at the club’

‘He has taken over and even new players have come in like Jermaine Jones and Roque Santa Cruz.

‘We also have a few players who are ones for the future, so we have to be calm.

‘Big changes always take time. The most important thing now is trying to make sure we are safe.

‘The only thing we have to talk about is the future. We have to realise that this league is demanding and you cannot relax and we have to get the points to be safe.’

Given the fickle nature of the league this season it has proven to be a very up and down league with only a handful of points separating Europe chasers and relegation candidates. Something that the Spanish bull acknowledges.

‘Two months ago we were talking about Europe because we hit seventh place,’ Salgado added.

‘This league is very demanding and I think it is the tightest Premier League ever.

‘There are 12 teams involved in the fight for survival, so we have to be calm and have a week to work before Birmingham and that is very important to get points at home.’

Salgado even saw the on field argument with Chris Samba at the end of the goalless draw at the weekend as a positive and a bonus as it proved Rovers have the character need to scrap.

Salgado clarified – ‘We’re leaders and if we see something wrong we sort it out. That’s what we need right now,’
