Salgado – why not Europe next year?

Michel Salgado, a man of not many words normally, has expressed his approval of life at Ewood Park.

And although Europe is out of reach this season, the omens are there for a good season next time out with everyone a little more settled and the side more established.

There was discontent amongst some Rovers fans (Team McCarthy on VB amongst them) round December time and that led to some calling for Sam Allardyce to be removed from his job – this has been shown to be a mild overreaction.

Since then, some much improved displays and a good run of results against sides in and around Blackburn has given the boys a bit of comfort in terms of table position.

Rovers need two more wins to guarantee safety and then we can crack on with the preperation for next season – something that Michel sees as important.

Salgado, speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph said – “We are heading the right way. If we work hard, why not Europe after next season? We have tough games ahead and the most important thing is to get safe first. Two more wins probably, then we will have the confidence to get more and more.

“That can help the future. Maybe not this season for Europe because it is far away but for the next season if we play with the same squad and maybe improve -depending on the money I suppose.

“That is very important also because you have six teams who are two steps ahead of us with regards money. It is very difficult to get them but in football maybe more important than money is confidence and the team morale.

“That is very good here and so if we build on what is growing here why not surprise a few people next season and finish high up the table.”

Salgado has himself put in some sterling displays in recent week (bar that Spurs shambles) and has fended off some of his critics.

There are still some doubts over whether he is actually worth £45,000 a week of course, but he is happy with how things are going in East Lancashire after ten years in Madrid.

He is also very pleased with the blend of youth and experience Rovers have now things are starting to come together.

Salgado continued – “I think it is very important to have the mix of youth and experience we are building. I think we have many very good young players that are growing up and need the advice of the old players.

“They are having a great season and we have three or four ready to play in big teams. Europe is perhaps a bit much this season but why not next season?

“We are building a great team for the future. We can build the platform now. These games coming up are important to build a team for next season. That is very important in the games that are left.”

The building process can be a slow burner but it is slowly starting to rear it’s head. Rovers are set for a big push next season I feel and Sam Allardyce must be given credit for this.

Yes it isn’t fashionable to credit a man a lot don’t like but he is slowly doing what he said he would.
