Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has once again backed Paul Robinson to be recalled to the England squad.

Robinson has been showing some superb form recently, none more so than his performance in our 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday and following this Allardyce has urged England Coach Fabio Capello to recall the goalkeeper (who he also believes should’ve come to watch him on Sunday.)

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “Paul was world class again (against Chelsea).

“He has really come into the forefront over the last 10 games and really worked very, very hard at his all-round goalkeeping.

“Fabio Capello was not at Chelsea but he should have been and he should have been there last week as Paul is back on top form.

Big Sam also believes that Robbo is the best English goalkeeper around at the moment with his form having a lot to do with our escape from the relegation zone.

He added: “As an English goalkeeper, he is performing the best in this country at the moment.

“Paul is right up there now and is producing the sort of saves on a regular basis which helped us to get clear of relegation.

The 29-year-old could very well be back in the England squad for next months World Cup Qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra as David James and Ben Foster are both out injured. With 41 caps to his name (he won his last cap in October 2007) Robbo is by far the most experienced goalkeeper who will be available to Capello with Robert Green, Joe Hart, Scott Carson and Chris Kirkland having only won around six or seven caps between them!!!

Personally I feel Robbo doesn’t need the aggravation of an England recall (and starting spot) but it’s a good bet that he’ll at least be back in the next squad.

  • Right now the best young English goalkeeper can’t get a game at Manchester City. But if Joe Hart doesn’t get the call Paul Robinson will do …

  • lol Sindbad, its a shame about Joe Hart but based on the last ten games the best English goalkeeper is ours…

  • Iv been happy to critique Robinson honestly all season….and he hasn’t shone all year but BSA seems to get the best outa him and he has done better and better….i’d go as far to say he’s been awesome for the last 5-10 games!!!!! He’s kept his place in the side n there will be no need to look for anyone else!!!

  • Certainly with James out and also Foster if he isnt in the goalkeeping 3 that is the biggest joke ever!!!!

  • His performance on saturday didn’t get the pluadits it deserved. 1) because we lost 2-0. and 2) Because Schwarze and Jaaskelainen had unbelievable games. That last stop against the Georgies will send them down, out of this world!

  • I think if he plays for England against Kazakhstan and Andorra it will be superb timing. I say this because he should keep two clean sheets and it would do his confidence the world of good – i.e. better that facing Brazil and Argentina! I think he needs to find his feet again on the international stage. However, I agree with Walker, I don’t think he/we need the headache of it all – let him get a good start to next season going and then maybe call him up.

  • Englan have alot of decent keepers out there but unlike other nations are so terrified of losing, namely the press would kill them in the papers, that they cant blood young players…. if James can still be considered No:1 then England are in trouble….I think I would rather see Alumina ( God knows how its spelt ) in the team….When u have players like Robinson, Green, Hart, Foster, Kirkland ( when fit ) etc then given the chance they would flourish, but, especailly the keepers are hounded until they lose confidence, not a good state of affairs!!!
