Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has once again backed Paul Robinson to be recalled to the England squad.

Robinson has been showing some superb form recently, none more so than his performance in our 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday and following this Allardyce has urged England Coach Fabio Capello to recall the goalkeeper (who he also believes should’ve come to watch him on Sunday.)

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “Paul was world class again (against Chelsea).

“He has really come into the forefront over the last 10 games and really worked very, very hard at his all-round goalkeeping.

“Fabio Capello was not at Chelsea but he should have been and he should have been there last week as Paul is back on top form.

Big Sam also believes that Robbo is the best English goalkeeper around at the moment with his form having a lot to do with our escape from the relegation zone.

He added: “As an English goalkeeper, he is performing the best in this country at the moment.

“Paul is right up there now and is producing the sort of saves on a regular basis which helped us to get clear of relegation.

The 29-year-old could very well be back in the England squad for next months World Cup Qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra as David James and Ben Foster are both out injured. With 41 caps to his name (he won his last cap in October 2007) Robbo is by far the most experienced goalkeeper who will be available to Capello with Robert Green, Joe Hart, Scott Carson and Chris Kirkland having only won around six or seven caps between them!!!

Personally I feel Robbo doesn’t need the aggravation of an England recall (and starting spot) but it’s a good bet that he’ll at least be back in the next squad.
