Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has ruled out trying to bring Michael Owen to Ewood Park (who had been linked to Rovers in newspaper reports).

Allardyce wants a striker that’ll be able to give Rovers plenty of matches next season and due to the injury problems that the England International has had Big Sam doesn’t think that the 29-year-old could give him the thirty matches (at least) that he wants so Owen has been ruled out.

Allardyce told the Sun: “Michael is an exceptionally good player but I just question the injury scenario. If he picked up the injuries he did at Newcastle, I couldn’t afford that. I couldn’t afford to be without him for long spells. That’s the doubt I would have.

“I need a striker that’s going to be available for 30 games next season – that’s the key.

“Finding a good striker is the first thing but also one who is going to be available on a regular basis.

“That’s not happened for Michael over the last four years at Newcastle. For me at this time, it’s not something I’d be interested in.

A fit Owen is one of the best strikers around, however, the problem is no one (and Big Sam has first had experience of this from his time at Newcastle United) has been able to see this for long enough over the past four to five-years!!! Ruud Van Nistelrooy (as Mr Mikey has told us VBers) could be an option for Big Sam and even though the former Manchester United striker is just returning from a long-term injury and is almost 33 he’d still be a better option that Owen so I back Big Sam completely here.
