Rovers manager Big Sam Allardyce was left somewhat underwhelmed by the debut appearance of short term contract man Yildiray Basturk.

He of the Inglourious Basturk played 45 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Wolves and despite showing glimpses was a little off the pace at times.

This did not go unnoticed by Allardyce who saw the good and also the bad.

Allardyce speaking to Sky Sports said – “He struggled at times. This was his first game for a long time and this is a quick league in the Premier League.

“You could see the quality he has but unfortunately that quality didn`t come when we needed it most, when he only had to pick Martin Olsson out and he over hit the pass.”

With Basturk`s having a race against time in the first place, it seems unlikely he will be retained on a longer contract past the end of his current one.

But Allardyce is prepared to give him another go in one of the last two games of the season.

“I don`t know. I will try and give him a game in the next two somewhere and see where we go from there,”

Bit harsh to publicly go to town on him maybe?

  • honestly, i don’t think he was that bad and he did provide us with some attacking spark in the middle of the park. i was disappointed to see him sub out at half time. i guess that’s as much as we are going to see him.

  • not looking good. Gonna have to spend some cash on the midfield this summer at this rate. Looks like Reid, Basturk and possibly MGP out. Doesn’t leave us with much to go with, Dunn, Grella, Andrews and Nzonzi. Bring back the legend that is TUGAY!!!

  • The midfield is ok we have some young people like Hoillet, lingzi guy, doran – diouf, salgado and olsson can also play on the midfield….cheers

  • I agree we are not too badly off, Emo, Dunn, Grella, Olsson, Diouf, Hoilett, Linganzi, N’Zonzi provide us with a decent base but we could do with a bit of a creative touch…

  • our midfield is certainly not good enough…we urgently need someone in the center of midfield that can create and provides some spark…like a healthy dunn!

  • These sort of comments never have a middle ground. It can either gee up the player or it can really nark him off…

  • Still think our midfield is good enough, yes maybe we miss a bit on the creative side, but these players often don’t defend to much, and we need that. Sometimes players develop the creative touch if there is nobody else to do it the the matches. I would prefer we spend our money on a goal scorer……cheers
