January transfer arrival Christopher Samba has earned great praise from Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes for his performance in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Saturday.

The 22-year-old £400,000 purchase from Hertha Berlin last month seems to be settling in nicely and a good partnership with Ryan Nelsen developing. The paring, with the help of another nine men (plus the substitutes who also played their part!) helped us gain a replay after we became the first British club to successfully prevent Arsenal from scoring in their new Emirates Stadium.

This was a big test for him against Arsenal,” said Hughes.

Obviously I had seen things when he came in on trial that I liked and that is why I bought him.

He cost something like £400k which is a steal in this current market, so it was a big test for him but he stepped up to the mark and I thought he was magnificent.

He is going to be a big player for us – literally!

Samba certainly is a beast of a player, but somewhat of a gentle giant I feel. Early signs are promising, has Sparky picked up yet another gem at a rock bottom price? I know it’s early days but what do you think? Comment below…
