Rovers captain Chris Samba has hailed the desire and the team spirit of Blackburn Rovers after gaining an unlikely point at powerful money machine Manchester City.

No-one gave Rovers even a hope in hell at Middle Eastlands but Rovers defied the odds, several changes at the back and a gulf in wage bill that would make your eyes water to register a share of the spoils.

“You know what is happening at Manchester City, with them spending big money and massive wages, but football is more than that. You have to believe that and we have shown it today,” Samba said in the Daily Telegraph.

“Of course it is normal that to attract the best players they have to pay the big wages but I think the team spirit is something you can`t buy.”

Samba’s comments are bound to strike a nerve with some of the City lads but there is no doubting it’s validity as spirit that is forged via understanding and respect takes time.

It is not something that you can throw money at and expect the best to happen, it is mental thing that can’t be faked or forged.

Samba himself, is now the Rovers captain and has taken to the task admirably, his remarks showing the belief he has in the current playing staff to work together to get results when they don’t seem possible.

Samba continued – “It has been hard work by the manager to bring the players together and now we have been together for a couple of years, we showed how important desire and team spirit really is”
