Samba wants everyone to share responsibility

Rovers defender Chris Samba has tried to ease the pressure off of the strikers by claiming that the goal scoring duties should be shared around the first team squad.

Samba is always a good source of the odd goal as he can normally be relied upon to bag a goal or two from corners and in the air and he believes that not all the burden should be on current forwards Niko and Jason Roberts.

With Rovers manager Allardyce struggling to find reinforcements for the front line Samba has decided the midfield and the defence should be pitching in.

Samba spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph and said – “Last season I think the defence should be quite happy with what we achieved. Between myself, Gael Givet, Ryan Nelsen and Martin Olsson, I think we got more than 10. That is a good thing.

“We have to keep improving though. I had a couple of big misses as well so I can improve on that. We have to look up and put the ball in the back of the net.

“It is a good feeling to score goals and helping the team to win games should be enough motivation. We can all do better in front of goal. The forwards help us defensively and we need to help them going forward.”

Samba is keen to stress that each player, regardless of position (yes that means you Robbo as well ;)) should be aiming to improve their own goal tally prior to the new season.

The beast also believes that Dave Dunn can be used as an inspiration as what can be achieved through hard work.

The Wall continued – “The best thing is if the defenders and midfielders score goals and the strikers score even more, I think if we all scored one or two goals more we would climb a couple of positions in the table.

“Every time you go on the pitch you think you can do something more, more goals, more clearances. It is important you remember the year before and how we had a difficult start and we will look to correct this.

“We know our strikers work very hard for the team and we work very hard for them. Sometimes the way we play means it is important we score from other positions. David Dunn showed that last season and we all have to do what we can.”
