Roque Santa Cruz will not play in Paraguay’s World Cup qualifiers after picking up an injury in Sunday’s game.

The Blackburn striker suffered tendonitis in Rovers’ win over Birmingham at Ewood Park on Sunday.

National team doctors have ruled Santa Cruz out of Saturday’s game in Peru and the fixture against Uruguay four days later.

According to the Paraguayan Football Association (APF), the 26-year-old could require surgery to fix the problem.

‘Santa Cruz was injured in the match he played for Blackburn last weekend and it is very possible that he will need surgery,’ said a statement from APF.

Paraguay coach Gerardo Martino has called up Cerro Porteno striker Jorge Achucarro as a replacement for Santa Cruz.

Hope this isnt as bad as it sounds, he has been really impressive so far….
