Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz is hoping to vanish the 5-3 defeat against Wigan Athletic on Saturday from the memories by helping Rovers into the Carling Cup Semi Finals.

Rovers take on Arsenal in Tuesday Evenings Quarter Final and Santa Cruz is desperate for a Rovers to bounce back (there is that saying ONCE again, a saying we have heard FAR too much recently) and win to maintain the chance of picking up some silverware this season, and with it a place in Europe again next season.

Santa Cruz told the Lancashire Telegraph: “It is a huge game for everyone because we want to have the chance to win a cup, so the Carling Cup and the FA Cup are tournaments where we want to do our best.

“We must do anything we can to get to the final
.”

Despite his hat trick against Wigan (which saw him become the first player in 11-years to score a hat trick but still end on the losing side, the last being Dwight Yorke in a 4-3 defeat to Newcastle Untied in 1996 when he played for Aston Villa) he still ended on the losing side, this obviously disappointed him, but not as much as the defeat itself, especially with all the mistakes that we made.

The Paraguayan International added: “It was very disappointing to lose, especially after scoring the three goals.

“We made too many mistakes and didn’t give ourselves the chance to really put ourselves on the front foot.

“Even when we are not playing well, we have to be strong to make sure we get a result
.”

A win might not exactly be a must, but defeat would see another possible route into European competition next season slammed shut.
