Savage To Clean Up

Robbie Savage has vowed to clean up his act after conceding his 13 bookings last season were “too many.” The combative Welshman has never been afraid to get stuck in or share an opinion but this season will begin with new targets being set by the man himself. The first will be to cut down on the yellow cards.

I got 13 last season and I think four of those came in the first four or five games, so hopefully I’m going to try and calm down a bit this season,” the former Welsh International would tell the Daily Star.

Savage has promised not to be drawn into matters that do not concern him as can often be the case and has been a cause for many of his bookings in the past. Savage`s style of play will always earn him cautions but in all fairness he does carry a somewhat unfair tag of being a “bad boy.” Despite his large number of yellows his sending off last season was the first of his career, so he`s hardly a serial offender in that respect like many others.

His second target this season will be to score more goals, last season`s return of only one goal was disappointing. Although rarely prolific in the past he has more often than not weighed in with a few goals here and there.

He would say ”I should be looking at trying to get six or seven this year. I enjoyed last season and towards the end, I was playing some of the best football of my career.”
