Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage has made his clearest indication yet that he WOULD return to the Welsh International set-up if John Toshack weren’t manager.

Savage and Toshack have had a running feud over the years, with the pair constantly digging at each other. Toshack made it clear early on that he wouldn’t be selecting Savage, saying he wasn’t good enough so Sav eventually announced his International retirement. However, with Toshack under pressure should he decide to go, or be made to go Sav has basically said that he would come out of retirement in a bid to add to his 39 caps.

Savage told the Daily Star: “At the minute I have retired from international football with Wales, but that’s all because of the guy who is in charge.

“Would I go back? Well, I’ve said ‘never say never’ and if there is a change of manager, then you never know.

“I certainly don’t think I’m too old to go back into it.

“I’m only 33, but I play with Tugay at Rovers and he is 37 so that says it all.

“My little boy Charlie asks why I don’t play for Wales anymore and I just tell him that I’m too old. But I do miss playing for Wales, I really do
.”

Since returning from his leg break Sav hasn’t quite been the same, but he now believes that he is back to his best (which is why he would return to International football, as he still thinks he has plenty to offer) and the fact that Rovers manager Mark Hughes dropped him earlier in the season helped give him the motivation he needed.

He added: “It was a shock to me when I was dropped.

“But you just have to get on with it and I think I reacted in the best possible way, even though I didn’t like the manager for about a week
.”
