When Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage was forced off so early in the victory over Manchester City on Sunday EVERYONE was worried, but none more so than he himself, as he feared another broken leg.

Savage was caught in a bone crunching (yet fair) challenge with Man City’s skipper, and Irish International Richard Dunne (who is built like a tank!!!) in the third minute, which left him worried that he had again broken his leg. He was able to carry on for a while, but he soon had to be replaced by Tugay, who was later sent off for picked up two needless (although probably unnecessarily issued?) yellow cards.

Thankfully for Sav and Rovers X-rays later revealed he has only sustained heavy bruising, but looking back at the incident to told the Lancashire Telegraph: “It was like being hit by a Blackpool tram!

“I didn’t see him coming and I don’t know how you can miss him, really.

“But when he hit me, I thought I’d been hit by a tram.

“It was a good tackle to be fair to him, and I like doing those myself, which is why I got straight up again.

“But I’ve since seen the replays and when he challenged me, my right foot got stuck in the ground and he caught me on the part where I broke it last time.

“At first, I thought I’d broken it again.

“I tried to carry on but couldn’t. However, I’ve since been for an X-ray and that was clear. They said it’s swollen and badly bruised but there’s no long-term damage, which is a relief
.”

It most definitely is a relief, and Savage should be fit for the match with Chelsea after a weeks break for the International window, a break that will HOPEFULLY see ALL of Rovers’ International players return unscathed!!!
