Savage’s Blackburn run ended

Having previously played every minute of every Premiership game for Blackburn Rovers this season Robbie Savage’s run ended on Sunday afternoon.

The 32-year-old Welshman was substituted after 75 minutes of Rovers 1-0 defeat by local rivals Bolton Wanderers thus breaking his unbeaten record of being the only Rover to play every Premiership minute this season.

Even if Savage wasn’t removed as he picked up his fifth booking in nine Premiership matches he was already facing an automatic one-match suspension after this game so his record was ending anyway. The booking itself for a foul on Nicky Hunt was somewhat harsh with the Bolton defender maybe making the most of the challenge?

The suspension means Savage will now sit out on Rovers’ match with West Ham United next weekend in the Sunday afternoon game which is being shown Live on Sky Sports, with a 4pm kick off.

Savage’s absence will be a blow with Steven Reid already ruled out with his back injury meaning we are already short of cover in the heart of midfield. The man most likely to step in is Aaron Mokoena, unless Mark Hughes reshuffles his pack moving players around and maybe bringing in Sergio Peter for a first start of the season, which is probably unlikely?

At least the suspension comes against West Ham (I mean no disrespect to West Ham as they are a very good side) as this would maybe be preferred to him missing one of the following three games with Aston Villa, Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur during November.
