Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams has revealed that Blackburn Rovers supporters are getting close to the record for season ticket sales as the club close in to the 18,000 mark that JW was aiming for.

With 17,500 tickets already sold three weeks before the big kick-off, easily beating the 14,000 sold last season, the Rovers are on the rise but the Rovers chairman feels there is room for even more season tickets sales come the big kick off.

Fans have taken up the chance to purchase a season ticket for just £199 with excitement. The good news is that the Blackburn end allocation is nearly sold out as is the Riverside but just over 500 have been sold in the Darwen end so far.

However, the Darwen end is expected to be the part of the stadium where the majority of casual fans will sit on match days.

Williams speaking to the LET said – “I am challenging my team and the people of Blackburn. 17,500 is a very good return and of course we are happy with the response the supporters have given it.

“But in my mind I was targeting between 18,000 and 20,000 and I really believe that is more than possible now after the initial response.

“There is still a considerable amount of time left before the start of the season and wouldn`t it be great if we could sell a few more and guarantee giving the team that bit more support come the start of the season.”

A small section of moaners and whiners have complained that the £150 Darwen End offer is not as good due to it only being for 16 games (you get the first game free with this ticket in another stand due to Man City being given the Darwen End) but John has again expressed that every possible technique and tactic has been used to give customers the best value for money.

Williams continued – “It is an aspirational thing to have a Blackburn Rover season ticket. What we have tried to do with the Darwen End experiment is to provide a low entry price for people to have just that.

“We have also provided that extra game, the Manchester City game in that price, and we hope fans will agree it is a very fair decision.

“You can`t keep giving. We need to keep a certain amount of flexibility for dosh. There are at least four games when we are guaranteed other clubs selling out the Darwen End. That money is important.”

I would like to state how well this has been done from the club’s side of things. This great pricing initiative deserves to be rewarded and it looks like this has been the case.

17,500 season tickets for a town with a population of just under 80,000 is a great effort.

Lets get everyone behind the team and keep the nosie coming on the back of last years’ very successful ‘crucial 3’ atmosphere.
