Sending Off Pivotal Moment – Gray

Michael Gray has leapt to the defence of his Blackburn Rovers team mate Tugay after his sending off in what proved a “pivotal moment” in Sunday’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Left-back Gray, deputising for the injured Lucas Neill had his best game of the season by far and best game without question I’ve seen him play for sometime as he claimed the Man of the Match award which would have surely gone to Tugay but for his sending off.

Tugay is an honest guy – he was just running back and slipped.

It certainly changes the game and it was farcical to send him off.

The linesman was trying to tell him he was last man. I can’t see how he could see it anyway,” said Gray when speaking to Sky Sports before being presented with his Man of the Match champagne.

I honestly can’t see how the intent was there for Tugay to foul Hossam Ghaly as his trailing leg caught the Egyptian so there is no way he could have intended this! Sure it was still a penalty but how it can be a red card is beyond me.

With Gray’s performance on Sunday it will be interesting to see what Mark Hughes does with his team selection once Neill is fit again. Personally from this showing Gray deserves to keep his place so Gray would have every right to feel aggrieved should the Australian walk straight back into the team in his place.

What do you think, did Michael Gray do enough to warrant keeping out Lucas Neill should he be fit for Thursday`s UEFA Cup tie?
