Blackburn Global Advisor Shebby Singh says he fully supports the Blackburn Rovers Action Group, and that the group will be working with the club and himself to help reunite the club with the fans.
Shebby had nothing but positive things to say about the group, and stated that he was most impressed with the work they have been carrying out for the fans.
I sat down with Shebby earlier today to discuss the Action Group, and how he plans to bring back the community feel to Blackburn Rovers after a turbulent two years.
The BRFC Action Group`s main aim is to reunite the community with the football club. How will you be working with them to achieve this aim?
To be exact I have been working with them from very early on, almost from the day I arrived, the Blackburn Rovers Action Group have been very proactive. When I came in they gave me a lot of support which they have continued to do throughout, and I see the group as a very progressive group and now we have built up a relationship.
In fact when we play Wolves on Saturday 6th October we will be hosting a group of children in a program which was initiated by the Blackburn Rovers Action Group so they have pretty much been on the front foot in uniting the community.
Do the BRFC Action Group have your full support to reach this aim of reuniting the community with the club?
Oh yes very much. They have been the most progressive group and I really, really appreciate their support and in return I support them, I support their initiatives. Despite all that has been said about the Blackburn Rovers Action Group I have been pleasantly surprised and we work hand in hand now, the club, the Action Group and I, to move things forward.
How much are other directors going to be involved with the process?
I have got a community trust team, Jill and Duncan, they will be working closely with the initiatives that we decide upon with the Blackburn Rovers Action Group, so we really are dealing with this, on a club and supporters group basis, we like the ideas, we want to work together and of course I will be spearheading this.
What initiatives will you be putting in place to help reunite the community and what do you think the Action Group can do to help achieve these?
We have been working closely together so much that I have given the Blackburn Rovers Action Group the responsibility to go out and not only come back with ideas and initiatives but also to seek and look out for fans of the club who might need some help, because my bosses, The Venkys, they are philanthropists as well, and do a lot of good work for people in need. We want to continue those initiatives in England with our fans.
How will you ensure that all sectors of Blackburn`s community are involved with the club?
I am very happy and honoured that I have met the mayor, the honourable mayor of Blackburn town, and we are now talking on a regular basis to see what we as a football club can do for all communities.
We want to encompass every level of society. We are on a very good footing right now and I would say in two or three weeks we will be announcing other initiatives with the communities. Slowly but surely we are moving in the right direction.
What is your ideal vision for how the football club fits into the town of Blackburn?
We want to forge strong links once again. We want to have a bond, the club, the fans, the community, everybody. We want to get everybody back together again for the club.
This is certainly a positive step in my view. Some people will say it is all talk, but in my honest opinion, this is something we have to throw our weight behind if we want our club and fans back together as one.
Rovers fans have been crying out for some communication and attempts to fix broken bonds between supporters and the club, so let`s embrace this and try and move forward together.
