Rovers global advisor Shebby Singh has apologised for some controversial comments made during the Open Meeting held for fans on Saturday.

Singh was there to answer questions from fans who have concerns over the direction that the club has taken/will take during the Venky’s reign with a strong crowd and the media in attendance.

On the whole the meeting was hailed a success but a couple of comments were picked up on regards long time player Morten Gamst Pedersen, who was branded (jokingly) ‘a pensioner’, and manager Steve Kean, who Singh said to take the promises of ‘with a pinch of salt’.

These comments are said to have made Morten and a few of the other players pretty mad and manager Steve Kean was also reported to be upset at what was said.

As a result Shebby spoke to the gang and apologised personally but also issued an apology in the public forum through the Lancashire Telegraph.

Shebby made a statement in the LT which said – “I would like to extend an apology to Steve Kean because some things were said on Saturday.

“I think they would have hurt Steve Kean`s feelings and, for that, I sincerely apologise.

“Some things are said in jest that don`t come across like that when repeated, but I am not making excuses. I apologise for hurting any feelings.

“I would also like to apologise to Morten Gamst Pedersen for what was said. There are no excuses and Morten is a great character.’

We understand the apology has not been forced from the Venky’s office over in India but has been passed on from player level, as a result concerns over Singh’s job and position are a little wide of the mark.

Singh did however acknowledge his own style does have drawbacks.

Singh continued – “My blunt honesty also sometimes upsets people and sometimes rubs people up the wrong way.

“I am making efforts to bring the club back to the fans and, in trying to do that, I have gone too far. I am trying to find the middle ground.”
