Blackburn Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen looks set for a MUCH sooner than expected return from his hamstring injury. After looking like he would be out for a month, he could return next week.

A quicker than anticipated return from injury for Nelsen (who damaged scare tissue from his previous hamstring operation from the summer of 2006) could come with both good and bad consequences. Obviously if he returns sooner he could feature against Larissa in the UEFA Cup first round second leg (as Rovers look to overturn the 2-0 first leg deficit) and then the Premiership fixture with Birmingham City.

However, the draw back is if fit he would then be called up New Zealand, which would mean two long haul flights during the International break. Obviously Nelsen would want to play for his country, but coming so soon after injury this is something that manager Mark Hughes is concerned about.

Hughes told Sky Sports (quotes taken from Sky Sports anyway): “There are international games coming, and there’s nothing you can do.

“But if he’s injured then he doesn’t make the games. We’ll have to have dialogue with them (New Zealand Football) and we’ll see what the situation is.

“But travelling halfway around the world might not be the best thing given he has had an episode with his hamstring.

“At least it’s not a hamstring strain or pull. It’s just scar tissue that has released itself.

“It’s initially very sore, but once the pain subsides he should be okay, and hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later.

“Next weekend may be a bit soon for him, but I certainly hope the week after
.”

Just getting God fit against first is the main priority isn’t it, everything else after will be dealt with as each bridge is crossed.
