Chelsea ace Drogba has backed close friend Benni McCarthy to make the South Africa squad for 2010 World Cup, held in South Africa.

Benni has struggled to get in the Rovers team this term with the excellent performances of David Dunn and Franco Di Santo and will be sweating on his space in the S.Africa squad.

He has received a boost though with the sacking of arch nemesis Joel Santana recently, opening the door for a fresh start.

Didier Drogba, speaking to Sky Sports said – ‘South Africa have to include their best players and Benny McCarthy is one of them,’

‘I have to defend my good friend. Not because he is my friend, but because he is a very good player. They need him.’

These words are likely to hit home in Africa coming from such a prominent Premier League player, but will Benni need to move to secure his spot?

With Rovers playing a 4-4-1-1 and Dunny on fire – where does he fit in?
