Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce believes Australian midfielder Vince Grella is showing signs that he has got over his incredibly stop-start career at Blackburn and is now showing his best form.

The talented hard man, who has barely been able to get going this season – had a strong, competitive game against Wigan yesterday and showed why Rovers paid £4 million to Torino for his services. More performances like that of yesterday and Allardyce will be purring.

Allardyce believes Grella is one of the best distributors of the ball and the club’s patient approach to his persistent injuries is now being rewarded finally.

Grella has never had his ability questioned but you could see from his mere presence in the Rovers’ midfield yesterday provided a lot more strength and dominance than Rovers have had all season with a variety of midfield combinations.

Allardyce, speaking to the L.E.T, said – ‘We said we wouldn’t throw Vince back in as quickly as we have in the past, and we’ve been good enough to resist the temptation to make sure he feels 100% fit.

‘Obviously from a match-fitness point of view he’s still a little short but his game against Wigan will lift him because not only did he play a big part in our victory, he came off without any injuries.

‘He knows how difficult the Premier League is physically. We’ve not seen the best of his passing abilities yet and the fitter he gets and the more he copes with the pace, the more we’ll see his outstanding passing moves.’

Keep it up Vinny!

  • H looked good. Wouldn’t it be nice to actually have the dilemma of who to pick in centre mid for a change (other than deciding who to play out of position there). Dunn, Reid and Grella all available for most of next season. This is the thing I dream of.

  • Couldn’t agree more Money! and as for Grella- First time he’s looked good because its the first time he’s been fit. What you recon Sas??

  • He was good yesterday, hopefully his injury problems are behind him now. Still needs to prove he was worth signing for £4million, I hope he proves you right next season Sas!

  • Let’s see a few more like that Vinny then we can rave about you a fair bit more. It’s good for starters, now let’s see if regularly WITHOUT injuries!!!

  • I have to say, i hold my hands up, i doubted his ability, however he was very impressive against wigan. Wouldnt use him a lot after we are save, get him to the end of the season injury free, so he can get 100% and fresh for the start of next season.

  • see thats aussie pride!!!! how many of you pommies raced to put bentley or warnock on the back of your jerseys aye aye!!!! I think us aussies are more patriotic then any other nation to be honest, we put nation before club any time….sydney fc or australia haha what a stupid question….SOCCEROOOOOOSSSSS

  • Im a huge fan of Vincenzo i was hoping that pompey would sign him, always gives 100% and never backs away, however he has been known to collect a few cards during the season. so dont be suprised next season if he picks up a few yellow and a couple of reds!
