Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce believes Australian midfielder Vince Grella is showing signs that he has got over his incredibly stop-start career at Blackburn and is now showing his best form.

The talented hard man, who has barely been able to get going this season – had a strong, competitive game against Wigan yesterday and showed why Rovers paid £4 million to Torino for his services. More performances like that of yesterday and Allardyce will be purring.

Allardyce believes Grella is one of the best distributors of the ball and the club’s patient approach to his persistent injuries is now being rewarded finally.

Grella has never had his ability questioned but you could see from his mere presence in the Rovers’ midfield yesterday provided a lot more strength and dominance than Rovers have had all season with a variety of midfield combinations.

Allardyce, speaking to the L.E.T, said – ‘We said we wouldn’t throw Vince back in as quickly as we have in the past, and we’ve been good enough to resist the temptation to make sure he feels 100% fit.

‘Obviously from a match-fitness point of view he’s still a little short but his game against Wigan will lift him because not only did he play a big part in our victory, he came off without any injuries.

‘He knows how difficult the Premier League is physically. We’ve not seen the best of his passing abilities yet and the fitter he gets and the more he copes with the pace, the more we’ll see his outstanding passing moves.’

Keep it up Vinny!
