Mark Hughes gave special praise to young Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire following his goals in the FA Cup win over Luton Town.

A further two goals and a performance of the highest maturity from the 20-year-old in the 4-0 win over Luton at Kenilworth Road has only added to his already growing reputation. Hughes said:

Matt has come in and had an impact whenever he’s played, be it from the bench or starting. He’s a great talent.

We sent him out to Wrexham on loan and he did well and scored plenty of goals, so we thought he could make the step-up to at least Championship level.

Maybe the step-up he has taken now has come a little sooner than we expected but he’s taken his chance.

I’ve got a few options up front but when a young player makes an impact by scoring goals then you have to play him.”

Hughes also gave a mention to Stephen Warnock he looked the part on his debut:

We had a problem down the left this season and Stephen is the answer. He showed he will help us improve the team.”

Warnock looks all that and more and although only one game this showed enough to suggest he was well worth purchasing as I’d always hoped he would. Once again Sparky looks to have served us very well.

As for Derbyshire I’ve never hidden my appreciation of him and how good I think he is, given the chances he will take them as he is proving. He’s still a little rough around the edges but the more he plays the better he gets. Potentially he could be one of the very best in a few years time!

So after the help of Derbyshire and Warnock we now await our fate; the draw for the fifth round takes place tomorrow lunchtime at 13:30 with Rovers being ball number 14. Although if you want to win you have to beat the best avoiding Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United (especially away!) would be nice.

Who would you like us drawn against? Thoughts below…
