Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes wants one last final push for a UEFA Cup place next season.

Hughes is looking for the form shown against Manchester United last Saturday evening to act as an inspiration for the remainder of the season, and believes that IF that standard can be met against Portsmouth, Derby County and Birmingham City then an Intertoto Cup spot is still within Rovers’ grasp

Hughes said: “After the draw with United, we have set the standard again,’ Hughes said.

“We were disappointed with our performance at Liverpool, we did not really lay a glove on them and the display was very flat.

“I knew I would get a response against Manchester United, and that is certainly what I had.

“Now we have set the standard again. We know exactly how hard we have to run and how hard we have to play to be able to get results at this level.

“And that will he help us in the games we have left
.”

Rovers would expect to beat Derby and Birmingham, so if Portsmouth can be safely navigated on Sunday afternoon then there is a VERY good chance that we could still sneak in the back door to the Intertoto Cup route?!?!
