Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that Mark Hughes’ priority over the summer is the signing of a proven goalscorer.

Hughes and Rovers chairman John Williams have had discussion where it has been revealed that Sparky’s priority is to sign a proven striker. Speaking the Lancashire Telegraph Williams said:

We’ve identified a number of strikers that we are interested in.

“Mark feels we’ve got the strongest squad we have had for a number of years, but he also feels we could still do with an extra striker and he’s given me a list of players he is interested in.

“Now between ourselves and our scouting network, that’s what we will be looking at over the summer
.”

Craig Bellamy has been Sparky’s number one target but with a price tag as high as £12 million being placed on the Welsh International’s head (DOUBLE what Liverpool paid us just 12-months ago!) the club are now also looking at other alternatives, one being (the proved?!?!) James Beattie?

The usual end of season battle to hold on to players is another topic Williams touched on, but he has assured us that the club are under NO pressure to sell, so Rovers will not be looking to offload anyone. Williams added:

I’ve told Mark we don’t have to sell anyone this summer and we are determined to hold onto the players we already have.”
