Kilmarnock have targeted Rovers coach Steve Kean as the man to fill the vacated managerial spot at Rugby Park.

Kean has been a hit and earned rave reviews under Rovers boss Sam Allardyce – even to the point where John Williams has dug his heels in and refused to let Kean go.

Killie are keen to fill the spot left empty by Colin Calderwood but might have to look elsewhere if Rovers current stance stays hardened.

The Chairman spoke to the Daily Record and said – ‘We’re offering Stevie the opportunity to develop his coaching skills in a top national league,’

‘Maybe Blackburn might want him back one day in a bigger role. The matter isn’t clear cut and negotiations are at a delicate stage.

‘The Rovers chairman’s told me Stevie’s not leaving them. My understanding is both parties are going to have further talks.

‘We believe we have terms and conditions that would be agreeable to Stevie but they may see compensation as a point of principle.’
