It has been over a week since Efe Ambrose was secured on loan from Celtic. Well, so it was thought anyway. However, a final decision on his deal going through still hasn’t been made.

Blackburn agreed a deal with Celtic for the Nigerian international ahead of the transfer deadline last week but work permit issues have put this deal in doubt.

As there’s still been no decision on this permit being issued Ambrose was left to watch the Blackburn defeat to Leeds from the stands the following day. He also sat out Rovers’ victory over QPR last weekend.

When commenting on the situation recently Blackburn boss Owen Coyle was quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph as saying.

‘That`s an issue regarding the work permit. For me, it`s one or two things – you`re either eligible or you`re not. We had a conversation with Celtic and we were led to believe from them that everything should be ok. Going from one governing body, the SFA, to the FA, there`s different criteria for work permits in different countries.’

The more time that passes without this potential deal going ahead the less likely I would seem Ambrose will complete his loan arrival at Blackburn. It shouldn’t be that hard a decision as Coyle says to give a ‘yes or no’ answer to his work permit application really should it?

With a deal for the 28 year old very much in doubt Blackburn are looking at alternative options. That’s seen free agent – and former Birmingham defender – Paul Caddis train with Rovers with the view to a short-term deal.
