In what was boasted as a tricky encounter, Australia Faced Qatar in the first game of the Group Stages for Qualification for the 2010 World Cup.

With Qatar featuring more nationalized players then local lads, this appeared to be a challenging encounter for the Aussies who were missing Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka and Vinnie Grella.

However, they appeared not to be missed, with Brett Emerton, Mark Bresciano, Timmy Cahill and Judas Neill stepping up and leading the Aussies. Australia took the early lead, with Brett Emerton skipping down the right flank, whipping in a delightful cross to Joshua Kennedy, who stood above both Qatari defenders, placing a looping header into the back of the net.

With the early goal, the Aussies cranked up the pressure, Brett Emerton racing up and down the flank. Timmy Cahill headed home from a corner, whilst Mark Bresciano blasted the third after some fantastic build up.

The score remained the same in the second half, with Brett Emerton delighting the crowd with a superb display.

Sasmans Thoughts

More importantly for Rovers, Emo came through unscathed. With Samba and Nelson out of action, and Ooijer with a shaky injury, Im Sure Sparky would be up watching this game with concern. Hopefully he picked up on a delightful performance from Defensive Midfielder, Jason Culina, who comes of contract in 6 months.
