Sympathy For Wigan’s Edman

I don’t know about anyone else but I HATE seeing any player suffer a serious injury, no matter whom they play for or what my personal opinion is of the player. So seeing Wigan Athletic defender Erik Edman injured against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday saddened me.

Late in the first half of Rovers’ 3-1 win over Wigan at Ewood Park Edman suffered what seems to be a ruptured anterior ligament injury in fairly innocuous circumstances. Although Jason Roberts was looking to get on the end of a cross into the box a defensive clearance always seemed the most likely outcome (as it proved) but the Swedish International appeared to get his foot caught in the Ewood turf, or at least get himself in an awkward position (maybe it was a bit of both) which caused the serious injury.

Any serious injury to ANY player (even if I don’t particularly like the footballer) isn’t something that I like seeing, seeing this happen against Rovers is something that I like seeing EVEN less. I wish Edman all the very best in his recovery, which seems like it will be a long road as it looks as though he will be out until September or October.
