Target Offered New Cardiff Deal

Blackburn Rovers are making quite a habit of turning to Cardiff City for players aren’t we!!

We brought in both Rudy Gestede and Craig Conway from The Cardiff City Stadium last season and Gary Bowyer also wanted to bring in Don Cowie as well but a loan move wasn’t something that he could pull off.

Cowie’s contract with Cardiff expires this summer and the speculation is that Bowyer is still interested in the Scottish International with the 31-year-old someone that he wants to bring to Ewood Park, however, despite his lack of playing time last season Cardiff Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still hoping to keep him and has offered him a new contract.

Of the 18 appearances that Cowie made for Cardiff last season 10 of them were Premier League starts but having been a key member of the side that got them into the Premier League now that they’re back in the Championship he’d be more likely to be a regular in the side again.

Coming to Ewood Park would mean uprooting, however, hopefully he’ll be willing to do this as if he was as successful with Rovers as his two previous team-mates have been since coming to Ewood we’d be laughing next season.

I think another thing we’d have to take into account (I’d understand him deciding to stay with Cardiff now if he will play regular First-Team Football after their relegation) could be that his former Manager Malky Mackay could soon be back in management so Cowie might decide to see where the man who had him at Watford and Cardiff ends up first to see if he perhaps wants to take him on again??

Rovers don’t need major surgery this summer, a few nips and tucks here and there and we could be challenging for promotion next season. I’d be happy to make midfielder Cowie one of those alterations but I’m not so sure this is one we’ll manage to pull off now that Cardiff didn’t stay in the Premier League.
