The Axe Could Leave Rovers

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Aaron Mokoena admits that he will quite possibly have to leave Rovers at the end of the season if he doesn’t start playing regularly.

In his three-years at Ewood Park Mokoena has never been a permanent fixture in Mark Hughes’ side and he has now become increasingly frustrated at this, and handed in a transfer request recently that was rejected by the club, but unless he can start playing regularly (as this will affect his place in the South African International side) he WILL leave Rovers.

Mokoena told the Daily Mail: “There was only one transfer request. They rejected it. Now it’s about waiting to see what’s going to happen.

“I emphasised that I need more games. If I can’t get them with Blackburn, I would be better off leaving.

“My point was clear. I am captain of South Africa. I need to be playing.

“The manager said I should take it easy, that I would play and he gave me a couple of games. To be fair to him, he is in a difficult situation. We all want to play
.”

The Axe sets of for the African Cup of Nations with South African (taking place in Ghana) next month so this will keep him out of the Rovers side for some time, however, at the moment he doesn’t know when he will be leaving, but would like to leave at last as possible to enhance his playing chances with us.

He added: “Fifa rules say it’s two weeks before and Blackburn have a busy schedule. I want to leave as late as possible.

“But we have a friendly in South Africa before we go to Ghana. He (South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira) might need the whole squad for that game.

“If I am still playing here, I will be match fit
.”

It is a difficult position for all concerned (Sparky, the Axe, and of course his main rival Robbie Savage) but he will only stay for a limited amount of time if he can’t play more, but at this point in time it would look like his future could be away from Ewood Park, but this wont be until the summer (if he does leave.)
