The end for Pedersen?

Long serving Rovers midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen has confirmed that he will see out the final year of his current Rovers contract – as long as the club want him around next season.

The player, controversially described as a pensioner early season by Global Advisor and human foghorn Shebby Singh, has been in and out of the side this campaign and has been a mixed bag of inconsistency as is now his norm.

But the player’s commitment to the cause at Ewood Park, which should never be questioned, has shone through in difficult times for Rovers.

Pedersen told the Lancashire Telegraph – “It`s hard to say, maybe it would be good, maybe not, you never know.

“When I`m here I always stand behind the contract.

“I was the first one to say I was behind my contract when we went down.

“When you love the club and you so badly want it to do well and get back to the Premier League you don`t want to let people down. I didn`t want to jump off or anything like that.’

After signing for Rovers in 2004 from Norwegian side Tromso, Pedersen has been a mainstay at the club and another year would see him come close to reaching Testimonial status.

“I`m a big part of this club and I`ve been here for a long time. I`m the longest serving player now, with Dunny having two spells.’ Morten continued.

“It`s tough, you`ve got feelings and that`s why it hurts even more when you lose games.

“But I`ve still got one more year left and that`s what I`m thinking of. I`m going away now and I`m coming back here for pre-season.

“I always stand behind the club and the contract. I`ve never gone up and tried to say other things.”

The problem facing Gamst is that Rovers are going to need some financial restructuring this summer with income already vastly outweighed by money leaving the club and measuring his output against his wages (which are high for the Championship) he should be considered for the chop if we are keen to move players out.

One thing is for sure though, for as inconsistent and as frustrating as he can be, there are many who’ve fled the vessel whilst he hung around and at least tried to help out.

General complaints about player wages aside, that’s commendable.
