Long serving Rovers midfielder Brett Emerton appears to be on the verge of leaving Rovers after reports emerged that he is in advanced talks with Sydney FC to head home to the Australian A-League.

Brett has been with Rovers since 2003 and has never played for any other English side other than Blackburn but it seems that the arrival of Radosav Petrovic and Simon Vukcevic has sealed Emo’s fate as he looks set to leave.

Australian publication watoday is reporting – ‘Socceroos star Brett Emerton will officially become Sydney FC’s new marquee player today as the Sky Blues put the finishing touches to a history-making deal that makes him the first player to exchange the English Premier League for the A-League.

Emerton, 32, will leave Blackburn Rovers a year early after terminating his contract by mutual consent – but not before making what is likely to be an emotional 248th and final appearance for his only EPL club at Ewood Park against Tim Cahill’s Everton this weekend.

Emerton has signed a three-year deal to fill the Sky Blues’ second marquee spot alongside Nicky Carle after passing a medical in Manchester.’

If he is to go there is no doubting that Brett has been a superb servant to Rovers over the years.

Never one to moan or cry when things don’t go his way, he just gets on with it with a loyalty that puts a lot of other fellow pros to shame.
