This will be a regular feature on Vital Blackburn from today as after each game we will get a fan to write his/her thoughts on the game in the form of a match report. We hope this will allow different people to put across their views and see how they differ from the match reports of Sasman and “the always excellent” Mikey.

First into the hotseat is respected member Hedlacaite.

Here are his thoughts and facts on the match v Newcastle yesterday from where he sat.

Starting Line-up

—–Robinson—–
—–Ooijer—–Samba—–Nelsen—–Warnock—–
—–Emerton—–Andrews—–Tugay—–Pedersen—–
—–Roberts—–McCarthy—–

Subs: Bunn(GK), Dunn, Santa Cruz, Grella, Mokoena, Treacy, Derbyshire

First Half

First Rovers substitute came in the 45th min when Samba got elbowed by Carroll resulting in a badly bruised eye. Dunn took over with a horrible goatee and Rovers reshuffled.

—–Robinson—–
—–Emerton—–Ooijer—–Nelsen—–Warnock—–
—–Dunn—–Andrews—–Tugay—–Pedersen—–
—–Roberts—–McCarthy—–

We ended the first half with some really horrible defending giving Newcastle 2 shots on target and us getting none.

Second Half

Our first shot on target came on the 52nd min from a McCarthy freekick which Given saved with a touch onto his left hand post.

Second Rovers substitute came in the 59th min. Tugay off for Grella.

—–Robinson—–
—–Emerton—–Ooijer—–Nelsen—–Warnock—–
—–Dunn—–Grella—–Andrews—–Pedersen—–
—–Roberts—–McCarthy—–

The other Aussie immediately made an impact on the 61st minute with a ball from the right to McCarthy. Edgar was on the wrong side of McCarthy and appeared to have fouled him. McCarthy did look as if he went down too easily though. The Newcastle right back got a yellow card for all his troubles.

McCarthy sent Given the right way but the power of the ball was too much for the Irish to keep.

Rovers 1-0 Newcastle.

A freekick from Robinson in his own half on the 66th min resulted in Route 1 Football when the ball hit Pedersen on the thigh and went straight to the boot of Roberts who sent Given crying back to St. James Park.

Rovers 2-0 Newcastle

Third Rovers substitute came in the 70th min when Santa Cruz finally made his way back into the team with McCarthy being taken off.

—–Robinson—–
—–Emerton—–Ooijer—–Nelsen—–Warnock—–
—–Dunn—–Grella—–Andrews—–Pedersen—–
—–Roberts—–Santa Cruz—–

Butt picked up a booking for a bad foul on Warnock on the 73rd min.

Grella picked up a yellow card on the 82nd min for a stupid foul on Owen.

In the 83rd min, Newcastle got down to 10 men after a scrappy double challenge on Roberts and Dunn by former Manure player Butt.

Roberts got his share of the pie for appealing too much to the ref on the 84th min.

Roberts scored on the 86th min when Dunn robbed Enrique on the right and put the ball to Andrews. The former MK Dons player tipped the ball to Pedersen whom sent a low ball pass Given for Roberts tip the ball into an empty net.

Barton was himself on the 89th min and got a yellow for shouting at the linesmen.

We ended the second half with dominance and 4 shots on target.

Player Ratings

Paul Robinson – 7.5
Didn’t make any saves in the 2nd half but kept a clean sheet.

Ryan Nelsen – 6
Good tackles by the skipper stopped the attacks of the opposition.

Chris Samba – 5
Looked really dodgy.

Stephan Warnock – 6
Did okay against Duff and Edgar.

Andre Ooijer – 6
Kept his composure against Carroll.

Tugay – 5
Didn’t really have the legs to continue. Let’s sign him on as a coach.

Andrews – 6.5
Didn’t really appear at all aside from that goal-line clearance.

Morten Gamst Pedersen – 7
Two assists with the shades of the old Pedersen coming back. We REALLY need him.

Brett Emerton – 5.5
Not one of his best games other than a few good crosses, all he did was mis-place his passes.

McCarthy – 7.5
Won the penalty and finished the game with a goal in hand.

Jason Roberts – 8
Two goals in this game with Roberts finally showing his finishing skills. Hope more of the Roberts and McCarthy partnership prospers.

David Dunn – 6.5
Did fairly okay in his return. Needs more match practice though.

Vincenzo Grella – 6
Cut out the oppostition when needed.
Nothing impressive about his return when all he did was walk.

Thoughts
This win puts us up on the 16th spot on goal difference. A good step to keep us going up the table. The next game against Notlob would be difficult. Go Rovers!!!!!

This Feature
Will be running after every league game. Glen Mullan is up next folks for Bolton at home. Hope you enjoy, could be a winner this column!
