International Fixtures often mean at least half a dozen Rovers players are out and about representing their country. This round of fixtures was no different, with players travelling the globe for World Cup Qualifiers and International friendlies.

Starting of with the World Cup Qualifiers, Fabio Capellos English outfit faced the simple task of defeating the lowly ranked Andorra. Our very own Paul Robinson was named in the squad, but was a unused substitue as a Joe Cole brace saw victory to the Pommies.

Ryan Nelsen lead his New Zealand team to a comfortable 3-1 win over New Caledonia. The Kiwi outfit is sure to win the Oceania region, giving them a play-off against the winner of the third place play-off in the Asian Region.

Morten Gamst Pederson played a small role in Norways 2-2 draw with Iceland. Coming on in the 60th minute, Morten was unable to provide great affect to the result, with former Chelsea hit man, Eidur Gudjohnsen netting a late equaliser for Iceland.

In a game with interest with both parties, Steven Reid’s Republic of Ireland outfit defeated Zurab Khizanishvillis Georgian team 2-1 with Steven Reid receiving great reports from his manager, Mr Trappatoni.

In the African region, Chris Samba’s Congo defeated a brave Mali outfit thanks to a late winner. Congo remain on route to qualify for the final stages of world cup qualification, equally leading their group.

The final world cup qualifier involving a Rover was in the South American division, with Roque Santa Cruz unable to participate due to injury, with his Paraguayan outfit scoring a 1-1 draw with Argentina, remaining on top of the South American Zone.

Benni McCarthy was given the Captains arm band in South Africas friendly match against Nigeria, however he was unable to net a goal, with Nigeria winning 1-0. Aaron Mokoena missed out through suspension.

Finally, the match we have all been waiting for, Andre Oijer’s played 90 minutes in his side’s 2-1 loss to the Australian Socceroos in their final warm-up game before the start of their World Cup Qualifying Campaign. Brett Emerton played 45 minutes, (dont worry, no injury to worry about, just a deal struck between Blackburn and Australia) whilst Vinnie Grella missed out through injury.

With all our boys coming through without any further injuries, we can only hope that they all get through the mid week games with good wins, and top fitness.

Good luck to all our international players!!!!!
