The Good, The Bad & The Ugly?

Obviously this is a Blackburn Rovers site but we here at Vital Blackburn also like to think that we have a broader range and can also talk about football on a grander scale… So having seen all the weekends Premiership action at least in highlights now I’ve had my chance to sum up what I see as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly…

The Good – Tottenham Hotspur, Scott Carson (Charlton Athletic) & Watford’s first win!
Defending Premiership Champions Chelsea were surely going to go to White Hart Lane and maintain their twelve-year unbeaten League run against Tottenham weren’t they? NOPE! A fantastic Spurs performance (see Spurs fans despite the “disagreement” we may have had I still appreciate good football!) saw them win a League game against Chelsea for the first time since 1990!

Goalkeeper Scott Carson, on loan at Charlton from Liverpool has a fantastic afternoon making save after save against Manchester City, denying Georgios Samaras, DeMarcus Beasley, Micah Richards, Bernardo Corradi etc. etc. as his side finally won a match!

Watford have to get a mention for their first Premiership win since their return to the top flight, congratulations to the glory hornet boys.

The Bad – Poor Officiating & Middlesbrough Defending!
The bad, again obviously was yet another Rovers’ defeat at the hands of Aston Villa among other things?

The officials are often criticised for their handling of the game. Sure it’s not an easy job but consistency HAS to be maintained. How can Howard Webb seek the advice of his assistant Richard West (having decided it wasn’t a penalty!) and then give one for a shocking “handball” decision against Andre Ooijer and then when looking STRAIGHT at Stilian Petrov not give a penalty to Rovers for something much worse and far more blatant? Graham Poll’s decisions also costs Chelsea. He disallowed a perfectly good Didier Drogba goal and then for some reason gave John Terry his second booking, therefore sending him off for what appeared nothing!

How can a team managed by such a top class defender in Gareth Southgate continue to defend so poorly? Once again Middlesbrough only have themselves to blame for a defeat due to some appalling defending.

The Ugly – Object Throwing
Something that happens regularly on the continent is staring to happen here more often, objects are being thrown at footballer. TWICE this past weekend players were struck by coins thrown from the crowd.

Fulham’s Claus Jensen as hit near the eye by a coin thrown from the Everton section on Saturday then 24 hours later Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie was struck on the back of the head by an object (again a coin I think) thrown by a West Ham United supporter. SCUM is a word that springs to mind.

With all the camera that are around nowadays it is unlikely these “fans” will get away with what they have done, so if and when they are found out I hope that they are fully named and shamed and banned from ALL football grounds FOR LIFE! Most people in everyday life wouldn’t throw a coin or any other object at someone so what makes people feel this is acceptable in a football ground?

In the heat of the moment we often see the red mist but that is no excuse for something that could and will one day cause serious injury to another human being.

So you’ve heard my take on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly for the latest round of Premiership games do you agree?
