The Good, The Bad & The Ugly?

Obviously this is a Blackburn Rovers site but we here at Vital Blackburn also like to think that we have a broader range and can also talk about football on a grander scale? So having seen all the weekends Premiership action at least in highlights now I’ve had my chance to sum up what I see as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly?

The Good – Malcolm Christie Scoring for Middlesbrough, the skill of Charlton’s ball boy, Fulham’s Liam Rosenior & David James’ saves!
Even though he was a mile offside and should have had his goal ruled out seeing Malcolm Christie score for Middlesbrough this weekend for the first time in 18-months was good. After YEARS of injury problems he deserved the luck, and may it continue against teams other than Rovers!

A Charlton Athletic ball boy milking his skill to the crowd brought a huge smile to my face and I couldn’t help but laugh. After skilfully chipping the ball to an Everton player on a throw in he later expertly trapped a ball on his chest as it went out of play, not content with that he turned round to the crowd to milk it for all its worth and accepted their rapturous applause.

The self confessed cocoa drinking scrabble playing mild mannered Fulham youngster Liam Rosenior showed he was no pushover as he argued his point against a livid captain Luis Boa Morte? Good on you Liam!

With Newcastle United rampant against Portsmouth former England goalkeeper David James made a series of saves showing he still has plenty more to offer should his country come calling again?

The Bad – Blackburn not playing, Officiating?AGAIN & David James haircut!
The bad has to be Rovers not having a game this weekend, or in midweek for that matter. I hate it when it’s a weekend and we don’t play? even more so during the actually football season!

Once again the officials let themselves down. Somehow the assistant failed to call Malcolm Christie offside when he was a mile off when he scored. In the same Aston Villa – Middlesbrough game Stilian Petrov fooled the referee into giving a penalty with a dramatic dive, although in fairness to the Bulgarian and the ref some contact was made so technically this was a penalty?!?! Finally in the Newcastle – Portsmouth match one assistant called Obafemi Martins offside, ruling out his goal when he shouldn’t whilst the other didn’t rule Antoine Sibierski offside when he should have as he went on to score. This situation evened itself out from Newcastle’s point of view though.

He may have made save after save keeping the scoreline respectable from Portsmouth’s point of view but David James’ dodgy 1950’s style Clark Kent hairdo needs sorting! Maybe he genuinely believes he is Superman!

The Ugly – Emanuel Eboue’s Oscar performance when shoved by Kevin Davies, Emile Heskey’s two footed lunge unpunished, Play acting in Manchester United – Chelsea game!
It has to be said that former Rovers striker Kevin Davies was lucky not to have been sent off for his full on shove on Arsenal’s Emanuel Eboue during Bolton Wanderers win but the meal Eboue made of the push was worthy of an Oscar!

Having been booked minutes earlier Emile Heskey launched into a two footed lunge on Tottenham Hotspur’s Didier Zokora but somehow escaped further punishment. Amazingly Zokora, who probably isn’t doing himself too many favours with some of his own actions received a yellow card.

Some of the play acting in the Manchester United – Chelsea match, billed as the “showdown” by Sky Sports was ugly. Players went down at times as if hit by a truck but soon recovered.

So you’ve heard my take on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly for the latest round of Premiership games do you agree?
