The Good, The Bad & The Ugly?

Obviously this is a Blackburn Rovers site but we here at Vital Blackburn also like to think that we have a broader range and can also talk about football on a grander scale? So having seen all the weekends Premiership action at least in highlights now I’ve had my chance to sum up what I see as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly?

The Good – Stuart Pearce NOT defending Bernardo Corradi, Morten Gamst Pedersen’s Goal, Matthew Taylor’s Goal, Michael Essien’s Goal and Mark Schwarzer’s saves!
After the Manchester City striker was given a second yellow card therefore being sent off for a scandalous dive (see the Ugly!) City manager Stuart Pearce failed to defend the Italian in every interview he gave, even saying in his BBC one “he wasn’t going to stand here giving a bulls**t story defending him!” Touché psycho Pearce? boy would I not want to be Corradi.

He’s struggled for form and I’ve backed the claims (maybe even spearheaded some) for Morten Gamst Pedersen to be dropped but his right-footed strike against Newcastle was the Pedersen we know and love.

I thought that Tugay had scored the Goal of the Season with his strike against Tottenham Hotspur last month but Portsmouth’s Matthew Taylor has outdone him with an incredible forty odd yard volley against Everton, what a goal!

Michael Essien scored another superb goal over the weekend, his 30-yard rocket left Arsenal’s Jens Lehmann helpless as it flew past him. Unlike Andy Gray though I don’t believe it was better than Taylor’s goal though.

The art of goalkeeping is something that I admire but sadly defence and goalkeepers (in particular) don’t get enough credit, scoring goals earns more! Mark Schwarzer made a series of world-class saves to keep Middlesbrough in the game with Wigan Athletic and they eventually equalised and earned a point largely thanks to the Australian.

The Bad – Blackburn losing and Jens Lehmann/Didier Drogba’s antics!
I seem to be saying this more and more often but once gain Rovers lost. We were poor in the first half but our second half performance possibly deserved more.

Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann and Chelsea forward Didier Drogba were acting like Laurel & Hardy with their antics, barely being touched by each other as they threw themselves to the ground, shameful and embarrassing.

The Ugly – Bernardo Corradi!
Manchester City’s Italian striker had been booked for one nasty incident when an elbow appeared aimed in the direction of a Manchester United defender he then tried to con Graham Poll into giving City a penalty with a simply scandalous dive. He got what he deserved? a second booking and with it a red card.

So you’ve heard my take on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly for the latest round of Premiership games do you agree?
