The Good, The Bad & The Ugly?

Obviously this is a Blackburn Rovers site but we here at Vital Blackburn also like to think that we have a broader range and can also talk about football on a grander scale… So having seen all the weekends Premiership action at least in highlights now I’ve had my chance to sum up …

The Good – Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
Rooney struggling for form? of course he is! What better way to silence your critics than to open your Premiership account for the season in the week you turn 21-years-old. I know what better still why not score a hat trick!

The Bad – Benjani Mwaruwari (Portsmouth)/Tommy Smith (Watford)
The bad, obviously was Rovers’ defeat at the hands of West Ham United but has to also be shared between forwards Mwaruwari of Portsmouth and Watford’s Smith. Both were found guilty of missing opportunities with the goal at their mercy!

Mwaruwari missed the ball completely with the goal at his mercy from six-yards. Smith at least made some contact with the ball but somehow contrived to put the ball over the top when it seemed harder! I’m not sure which was worse?

The Ugly – Pedro Mendes (Portsmouth)
Having scored a trademark long-ranged effort inexplicably he handed on the line to prevent a certain Reading goal.

Quite rightly a penalty was awarded and he was sent from the field I hear you say? Nope! The referee and his assistant failed to see it so he escaped without punishment. In fairness to Mendes he acknowledge his error admitting “it was stupid.” Reading did score from a resulting corner so other than escaping a red card he, and Portsmouth weren’t completely unpunished. They were already 3-0 up, going onto eventually win 3-1.

That’s my take on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly for the latest round of Premiership games do you agree?
