Blackburn’s Championship season continued with a defeat against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

A disastrous start to the league season under Owen Coyle continued with Blackburn again heavily beaten. This time Coyle saw his former side Wigan thrash Rovers three-nil with it far from a happy return to the club he spent four-months with before being sacked!

Wigan took an early lead through Grigg (who remains on fire) finishing off an effort from Powell went into his path early on.

Powell himself doubled the lead with a little over half an hour played with a 20-yard freekick.

Blackburn could have fallen further behind before Byrne curled onto the crossbar as Rovers looked to get a goal back with the match over when Duffy turned the ball into his own net just past the hour mark.

Here’s a round up of the Championship action from the other matches played, with one still to take place.

What a start to the weekend it was for Brighton! A three-nil win was secured over Nottingham Forest to see them get the latest round of Championship matches off to a flying start, from an Albion perspective anyway.

Aston Villa (three-nil) are now up and running now with a win at Villa Park against Rotherham, having been beaten in the open match at Sheffield Wednesday (who drew at Norwich this time).

Barnsley (two-nil) and Wigan (three-nil) got first wins since returning to the Championship against Derby and Blackburn, respectively, with Wolves (under the new owners and a new boss) winning for the first time too seeing off visiting Reading two-nil.

The difficult start (albeit after only two-matches) for Newcastle continued with Rafa Benitez’s side losing at St James’ Park to Huddersfield this time two-one.

Who was the Rovers MotM? That’s what the latest poll is asking so do cast a vote.
