Three share Rovers Hat Trick Record

Following a recent question from Vital Blackburn Rovers member marshinrover regarding the hat trick records I decided to do a little investigating…

Marshinrover posted a question in regard to the most hat tricks scored in a season in the forum recently asking:

I got an easy one for you. Who has scored the most hat tricks in one season for rovers?

Luckily for me this researching didn’t take too long as I already knew that I already had the answer in an article I had already posted on the site a month or so back.

It’s a record shared by three men who each added fifteen goals to their seasonal tallies in hat tricks by scoring a total of five hat tricks in a season.

These men are –

John Southworth (1890-1891)
Andy McEvoy (1963-1964)
Alan Shearer (1995-1996)

Five hat tricks in any one season is pretty impressive isn’t it, some struggle to get one! Although I’m not saying it was easier to achieve in the “old days” on the whole more goals were scored due to the out and out attack policy so the modern day records on McEvoy, and even more so Shearer in 1995-1996 are amazing!

I’m glad that I already roughly knew the answer, as had I not and needed to carry out real in depth research I can honestly say I’d probably not have got the answer! Good challenge though marshinrover.
