Time To Focus Purely On Rovers Big Sam

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has been very vocal recently about this, that and the other.

I’ve probably somehow along the line missed the cause of it, however, I have a theory as to where this started.

Allardyce has had a running feud with Arsene Wenger for a while now and this has continued this season with the Rovers manager then saying that he was just as good a tactician as Wenger. He’s good but even he (privately) would have to concede that few could live up to the Arsenal manager really. Big Sam has also said that he’s good enough to manage a club like Real Madrid and could do this if he was given the chance. These comments saw a divide in opinions, some felt that he was undermining Blackburn or belittling the club as if we were not big enough for him and he felt he could do better, however, what’s more likely I feel is he was asked a question by a reporter and he answered but in a typical style of this countries media a way of portraying it in their best way to sell them newspapers by sensationalising what was said has actually occurred.

My main theory as to why Big Sam has suddenly started (what seems at times like he’s ranting and raving) is down to the England job, which will become available in a little under two-years. When he was Bolton Wanderers’ manager he wanted the job when Steve McClaren got it and is still disappointed (as any English manager would be) not to have gotten the International job after an interview, however, I personally feel that he is more disappointed this time that he’s not having his name linked with this job more as Fabio Capello’s successor as it’s Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson that are being mentioned more and their qualities talked up over his and this has angered him and left him talking so much about his own qualities and range of skills as a way of reminding people about him.

I think that it’s important for anyone to have goals that they want to achieve, however, I think it’s more important that Big Sam focuses purely on the task in hand of managing Blackburn Rovers at the moment and puts an end to all this I am as good as or I could manage so and so talk as it could end having a detrimental effect on what he’s doing at Ewood Park and how people actually view him and the job he is doing. It’s always nice to be respected by your peers (and I’m sure a lot do) but it’s equally important (more so) that your own supporters have this for you as well and Big Sam has battled a long to earn this with the vast majority of Rovers fans so he doesn’t want to go and undo this now for the sake of (what might be) his own ego and having this massaged as he goes in search of a job (England) that might not be there.
