Time To Lay To Rest Rovers Ghost

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes is hoping that we will be able to once and for all lay to rest the ghost that has haunted us since our FA Cup Semi-Final defeat in 2005.

That day Rovers were criticised for an over physical approach against Arsenal, and maybe so. The elbow Andy Todd gave Robin Van Persie was shocking and didn’t help our course. But despite the giant strides made forward we are still often tarnished with the same brush. Hughes is hopeful that the mud that had stuck as it often does can finally be washed away, he said:

We are a different team to the one of two years ago. Now we see ourselves as an established top 10 side and play accordingly.

We have two wingers and then there is Tugay one of the best playmakers in the Premier League.

Hopefully we are changing people’s perception of us as we have played well the last two years.

It is a game we are trying to live down to this day.

We are still experiencing some fall out from that time when you look at the number of bookings we pick up.

But it was a big ask to overcome a good Arsenal side and we were not at that level then.”

Hopefully the Semi-Final, be it against Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur will see us put in a vintage performance in front of the watching eyes of the World and once and for all let anyone still blinkered to our quality see otherwise. But if we could scrape into the Final without being at our best would we really mind…
