Tottenham Steal the Points at Ewood

An early third minute goal by Peter Crouch, breaking his goal scoring drought (does every striker in the EPL manage to do this against us or what….) gave Tottenham the advantage, and they held onto it despite several efforts from the home team.

Nikola Kalinic and Gael Givet were left out of the team as Ryan Nelsen and MB Diouf played their respective roles. Keith Andrews was also given his first EPL start of the season, finding himself in front of the out of sorts Morten Gamst Pedersen.

After a brief welcome from the new Blackburn Rovers supporters, and a fast start by Martin Olsson, it was a lofted ball by Van Der Vart which set up the Tottenham goal. Floating in at the back post, Peter Crouch lept over Chris Samba, his perfectly timed header evading the reach of Paul Robinson, and into the back of the net. 1-0

Martin Olsson continued to be the main threat for Rovers after the early goal, his pace and trickery down the left flank was causing all sorts of mayhem. However, Rovers had no end product after 3 spectacular crosses evaded the front men, who refused to gamble and make the required run.

Tottenham threatened on the counter, with the pace of Aaron Lennon and Jermaine Defoe unsetteling Michel Salgado in defence. Long range efforts from Van Der Vart and Lennon tested Robbo early, but the Spuds could not extend their lead.

Not that they needed to, as it appeared Gomes was doing his share for Tottenham inbetween the sticks. A good reflex save off a David Dunn drive followed a parried effort as Hoillet made a surge into the box. Rovers just couldnt find the back of the net, despite several attempts at goal.

Jermaine Jones managed to hold the midfield steady, however could be accused of dallying on the ball, after conceding it easily 2 or 3 times. Nelsen missed wide from a header, whilst a last minute free kick was deflected wide by Nelsen. 1-0 Tottenham at the break

The second half continued in similar fashion. Jones split the defence with a throughball, but MB Diouf couldnt finish, striking into Gomes. A school boy error from Salgado followed, putting Lennon through, who found Defoe, but Robinson ensured Rovers would still be in the game, saving the effort.

Blackburn brought on Gamst and Nzonzi to freshen up the midfield, with Morten taking over from Dunn on set pieces. The Norweigan appeared on song tonight, moving the ball well, a powerful shot well saved by Gomes.

Blackburn continued to pepper the goal, with Hoillet forcing Gomes into a stunning save, repeating the dosage after a Diouf effort. Samba had a late chance to force a draw, but his header was deflected over.

Blackburn would be ruing the missed opportunities, a home loss to Tottenham

1-0
