News is circulating that Paul Ince is identifying potential transfer targets for January. That is, providing he is still in charge.

First up is Skonto Riga Winger Aleksandrs Cauna, who is being lined up for a trial. Six time capped Cauna is only 20 but shows some promise and Ince would like to run the rule over him prior to the January transfer window opening.

Tommy Smith of Watford is another Ince target, with a £2 million deal being mooted although Rovers may face competition from Stoke for the target man, who has bagged 10 goals for Watford this season.

Craig Bellamy has been put up for sale by West Ham for a purported £6 million and Rovers are rumoured to be keen if Santa Cruz hot steps it to Manchester City in January. Bellamy’s wages, £60,000 reportedly, could prove a big stumbling block however.

Marcel Schafer is being lined up as Rovers next left back as Tottenham are rumoured to be interested in Stephen Warnock.

Warnock, who has been made captain in the absence of Dunn and Nelsen, was the subject of some bids in August from Newcastle but Rovers rejected them, however Redknapp’s Tottenham are reportedly willing to pay £5 million for the England Internationals services and this will be sanctioned allegedly to fund the purchase of Schafer, from Wolfsburg. The 24 year old recently won his first cap against England. The fee is reportedly £3.75 million and Ince will want Schafer in the Rovers fold before allowing Warnock to depart Ewood Park.

On a lighter note however is the news that Aussie legend and former Rovers Captain Lucash Neill has demanded a pay increase.

The full back has asked that, in a new deal he be given a pay rise as £70,000 clearly isnt enough per week for him. Failure to meet his demands will result in him seeing out his contract where he will then become a free agent and will be able to negotiate another ‘healthy’ contract.

Bless him, all he wanted was t compete at the highest level, against the best teams. But he didn’t leave for the money!
